Policy Issues Overview
Policy Mission
BTEC advocates for public policies that recognize the energy savings and efficiencies that can be provided through the use of biomass in direct heat and combined heat and power (CHP) applications.
Policy Principles
The Biomass Thermal Energy Council (BTEC) supports a comprehensive energy policy for America that:
- Promotes highest efficiency utilization of all energy resources
- Maximizes job creation in the biomass energy sector
- Reduces greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change
- Improves air quality through the support of clean, efficient combustion technologies
- Maximizes the reduction of America’s reliance on foreign fossil energy and increases America’s energy independence
- Promotes sustainable use of natural resources through the use of biomass in direct heat and
combined heat and power (CHP) applications.
Priorities and Initiatives
BTEC’s major policy priority is to maximize the ability of our nation’s biomass resource to provide renewable,
sustainable energy. If used efficiently to produce heat, biomass could replace up to 30% of the nation’s
petroleum use with a local, renewable fuel source. BTEC will work to establish a national thermal energy policy
that directs the limited biomass resource into its most efficient uses.
